Human Body Detectives Review and Giveaway {Ends 9/12}

As a former teacher, I really value fun children's books that not only educate but are enjoyable for kids to read. I also love when books are easy for children who have learning disabilities to understand also. I have worked with children with both autism and mental retardation so I know that reading can be difficult for them.

I am so excited to tell you about Human Body Detectives: The Lucky Escape by Dr. Heather Manley, N.D. This children's book is funny, exciting, and educational. I couldn't help but laugh as I listened to Merrin and Pearl's adventure through their baby brother's digestive system. The video below gives you a sneak peek into this adventure book:

The other great thing about this book is that the entire book is on Audio CD and comes with an activity workbook. What I love about this is that children who do struggle to read can listen to the CD and then work in the activity book to learn the great concepts that Heather Manley has included in her book. When I worked with handicapped children, it was difficult to find a lot of books on CD. Some of our kids really struggled with reading because of the disabilities they had so I would often work on recording some of the favorite books onto CD for their learning purposes. I love that Heather Manley thought of children's different learning styles when she put her book on CD and in a workbook form.

I borrowed a couple of children to listen to the audio CD and to work in the activity book and they had a blast. They were laughing and having a great time as Merrin and Pearl tried to escape their baby brother's poopy diaper.

You have to check out this book and the new one coming out in October! These would make great birthday and Christmas presents for the children in your life. These are best for 1st graders up to 5th graders but my 20 month old loved listening to the CD too. Check out The Human Body Detectives site to purchase your own copy. There are also great videos, fun activities, and your kids can even visit Merrin and Pearl's individual blogs!

This would be a great addition to any educator's curriculum. Any teacher or home school parent could definitely use this audio story to enhance their children's science class. What a fun way to learn about the digestive system!

The only cons I saw with this book was the word "fart" and the word "gosh". These are two words not allowed in our home but this is something that I would listen to with my daughter and talk to her about.

Since Heather Manley and I think that you will love this book as much as I do, she has so generously offered to give one reader their own copy of Human Body Detectives: The Lucky Escape.
