Cook's Ham: Best Holiday Dish Giveaway {Ends 12/11}

Winner - #75 - Miss Anita

Every year for Thanksgiving, we have a ham and turkey and we do it again at Christmas.  My father has always been responsible for cooking the ham as long as I can remember.

He puts a brown sugar glaze over the top and let's it cook for several hours.  Right before he serves it, he pours a can of pineapple over the top for a juicy, succulent, sweet ham.   This is something the whole family looks forward to as well as the yummy leftovers.

I didn't know that I was brand loyal to particular ham until Cook's Ham sent me a coupon to try one for myself.  I then realized that this is the ham that we normally buy.  I love Cook's Ham because they use all natural ingredients to make such a yummy ham.  "They slow-cure their hams with natural ingredients like pure cane sugar, real honey, brown sugar and maple syrup. For the perfect finish, they smoke our hams for hours using real hickory wood."

I found their hams to be the same price as other ham brands just juicier and better tasting.  You have so many choices to choose from such as spiral cut, boneless, and the bone-in ham.  I prefer the bone-in ham because I can use the bone to make soup and other things after we finish it up.

Cook's Ham site also has some great recipes to use your leftover ham, ham's glazes, and even tips on how to cook the ham the best.  This year for Christmas we will continue our family tradition of having ham for our dinner and we most definitely will be doing it Cook's Ham style!

You can find and purchase Cook's Ham at most grocery store chains as well Walmart and Target Supercenters.

Win It!
One reader will win a coupon to purchase a Cook's Ham - the value up to $30!

My worst holiday cooking experience was my first turkey. I didn't have it roasted in time to eat because I didn't realize how long it takes the darn things to thaw and cook :) *Thanks* for the giveaway!

I was responsible for cooking the turkey one year and when I pulled it out of the oven and started cutting into, I discovered that it was not cooked all the way yet. So dinner was a little later than usual that year.

One of my worst Holidays dinners, was when my husband and I were first married and we cooked for Thanksgiving for both his and my family. I had a towel by the stove and it had caught fire. The alarms went off like crazy and the whole house filled with smoke. I was so embarrassed and still get teased some 15 years later.
Thanks so much.

I haven't had a worst holiday cooking experience yet since so far I've managed to avoid cooking! Whether we visit my parents, DH's parents, or Cracker Barrel I haven't had to cook on a Holiday so far. This probably means my first experience will be a doozy!

One year while taking the turkey out of the oven, the juices spilled out causing a lot of smoke and setting the fire alarms off. Fire dept was very understanding.

My worst cooking experience was when I set the oven to preheat and hopped in the shower. I came out to a smoke filled house, dripping wet, wrapped in a towel and a fireman breaking through my door. The downstairs neighbor saw the smoke and banged on the door, when I didn't answer she thought I had passed out from the smoke and called the Fire Dept. I was so embarrassed when they found out that I had left the leftover pizza in it''s box in the oven for my daughter and forgot it was there.

Pouring hot mulled cider for a dozen guests into an antique crytal pitcher and watching the bottom of it drop straight out and down onto my foot.
Which was cut enough for me to end up in the emergency room.
Never pour hot liquid into a glass pitcher, folks.

I made sweet potato pie and didn't leave enough room for the marshmallows on top to expand. They ended up overflowing and falling all into the bottom of the oven, which caused the marshmallows to burn and catch fire which set off the fire alarm. That's my worst cooking disaster thus far...

My worst experience was Christmas a few years ago. We were cooking the turkey in a roaster oven and the fuse blew. Our home is older and so you can't just flip a switch. You have to replace the fuse. At first we thought we didn't have any and it being Christmas, the hardware stores are closed. Thankfully we did find one. We ended up moving the roaster with the turkey to the babies room to cook so we wouldn't blow the kitchen fuse again. :-)

One of my worst Thanksgivings was when I used the wrong kind of potato for the mashed potatoes and they wouldn't whip up. They just turned in a sticky kind of thin potato paste.

Kimberly said...

My worst holiday cooking experience wasn't a meal I actually was supposed to cook, but had to salvage. My dad's new girlfriend made ham and macarroni salad and not a whole lot else. The ham was cold and very weirdly bland and void of any flavor. It was like foam. The salad was just boiled pasta and mayo. I tried adding spices too late in the game and didn't fix it a whole lot.

main entry: Being married 33 years you have time to make alot of cooking mistakes, I guess my most imbarrassing messed up meal was 31 years ago on the 2nd year of marriage when we were in the navy living in charleston, SC and my parents were driving down to see us from Tenn. And I wanted to make chocolate mouse and thought I had to freeze it to serve and did so in individual serving glasses that were too thin and the glasses cracked from being frozen and the mouse was ruined as well. You live and learn though. Would love to serve this scrumptous ham for the holidays so thanks And A tip the cooks site suggest in buying the bone in hame verses the boneless sliced ham because the flavor is more savored by the ham muscles, which I have learned over the years and the bone makes a great stock flavor for cooking beans & soups.

One Thanksgiving, the heating element on my oven went out just after I put the turkey in. My microwave also blew a fuse. So we decided to go out. So I unstuffed the turkey and put everything back in the refrigerator. That's when a storm hit, and the power went out. The only place we could find that was open was a fish house that had its own generator. I believe I had sand dabs for my Thanksgiving dinner that year. (On Saturday, I got my oven and microwave fixed, and we had the turkey dinner on Sunday.)

My pumpkin cake rolled came out all rubbery last month when I baked it. It had never happened to me before and I was pretty upset because that is my favorite dessert to make for thanksgiving.

My worst cooking experience was when the pineapple upside down cake I made was sat aside for dessert later on an uneven surface and it slid and landed face down on the kitchen floor. Good thing we still had pumpkin pie but I was not a happy camper about the cake.

When I was 16 I made a big turkey without removing the inside package which also had a small plastic bag of gravy.
